Louisiana Center for Health Innovation Concludes Successful 2025 TExBioMed Summer Institute
Tue, 08/26/2025 - 12:43pmThe Louisiana Center for Health Innovation (LCHI) has proudly wrapped up the 2025 TExBioMed Summer Institute, recognizing the efforts of 13 dedicated undergraduate scholars who spent their summer advancing research in biomedical informatics, genomics, data science, and public health.
During the 12-week program, these driven students transformed bold ideas into reality. They tackled complex challenges, developed essential skills, and delivered impactful presentations that highlighted their growth and commitment to the field.
Among the scholars, the following students received top honors for their presentations:
1st Place: Katie Hambrice
Geospatial Analysis of Disparities in Access to Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCS)
2nd Place: Konye Brown
Trauma Data: Raising Awareness of a Cornerstone of Trauma Care
3rd Place (tie): Aseel Ghani
HPV on Every Shore: Comparative Genomics of HPV16 and 18
3rd Place (tie): Christian Bristow
Social Determinants of Cardiovascular Health: A State-Level Comparison Between Louisiana and Minnesota
LCHI extends heartfelt thanks to the research mentors, judges, guest lecturers, community partners, and university leadership whose support made this program possible. Special appreciation goes to Program Coordinator Kemiah Owoh and Graduate Assistants Chloe Guidry, Muhammad Usama Islam, and Madhu Sree Nalluri for their behind-the-scenes contributions.
The TExBioMed program is funded generously by the National Library of Medicine at NIH (Award #R25LM014215) and guided by Dr. Gabriela Mustata Wilson, PhD, MSc, FHIMSS, SNAI, FIAHSI, Principal Investigator and Program Director. Her leadership continues to shape the landscape of health innovation at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and beyond.
As this chapter comes to a close, the scholars leave not only with invaluable experience but also with the skills, purpose, and passion necessary to make a meaningful impact in the future of health innovation. The LCHI team eagerly anticipates following the paths these talented individuals will take moving forward.
