Angie V. Sanchez, MD, MPH is named the Health Innovation Officer at the Louisiana Center for Health Innovation at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Dr. Sanchez is a physician-scientist with extensive experience in public health and a passion for promoting equity in science, health, and community development.

She will use her expertise to create new strategies aimed at improving access to health, research, and quality of life, based on individual patient needs. Dr. Sanchez's goal is to use science and health to enhance disease understanding, develop science policies, and collaborate with multidisciplinary organizations to provide high-impact science. Her experience working with diverse populations and her outstanding leadership in health innovation, including health equity research, will be invaluable in this role.

As the Health Innovation Officer, Dr. Sanchez will be crucial in advancing the field of health innovation research, particularly in projects that address social determinants of health and factors contributing to health disparities. She will develop research proposals for external funding agencies, lead research projects, mentor, and train junior researchers, and collaborate with community partners to implement research interventions. She will also write and publish research papers and reports while staying up to date with the latest research.

Previously, Dr. Sanchez has provided executive and scientific leadership to manage research centers and science in the US and Colombia. She has worked for the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Colombia as the Director of Science, the Assistant Director at the CARE Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, and an Instructor in Investigation in the Neurology Department at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Sanchez has also completed Research Fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School at the CARE Research Center, and the Schepens Eye Research Institute of Massachusetts Eye and Ear at Harvard Medical School.
