Grant Deshotels

Grant Deshotels is a sophomore chemical engineering student at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, with a concentration in bioengineering and a minor in chemistry. On campus, he is involved in a variety of organizations, including the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Louisiana Engineering Society, Engineering Ambassadors, the Student Government Association, and the Advance Student Research Experience. He also works as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Biomedical Engineering and Advanced Materials (BEAM) Lab, where his research focuses on nanoparticles and polymers.

Grant joined LCHI through its 2026 TExBioMed Summer Institute, where he researched cancer vulnerability and oncology care access in Louisiana under the mentorship of Dr. Gaurav Raikhy and Dr. Shirin Sabbaghian Hebert. At the end of the program, he presented his project titled “The Influence of Healthcare Infrastructure and Poverty on Cancer Incidence in Louisiana,” to a panel of community partners and judges.

Upon graduation, Grant plans to enter the chemical industry as a process engineer. He is driven to innovate and implement sustainable, eco-friendly practices within chemical processing and manufacturing, bridging the gap between industrial efficiency and environmental protection.
